At first I thought that theme was the moral of the story but I learned that this was wrong.
Actually, theme is the central idea or insight about life and human nature that gives the story meaning. Some themes are universal which means that they are commonly found in the literature of all cultures and ages; the five main genres of literature are non-fiction, fiction, poetry, drama and myth. Since I now understand theme, I can find the theme of my favorite movie. My favorite movie is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The theme of this movie is “love will always triumph over evil”. On my theme pretest, I was below grade level. On my theme post test I hope that I will be at least at grade level.

- My name is Miranda and I love reading. It’s pretty much my life. I am 14 years old and I live at San Pasqual Academy. Its like a boarding school for foster youth. I have been in the system for about two years now and hopefully soon I will be placed back with my mother. My family is the most important thing in my entire life. I would do anything for my mom and my brother. Some of my hobbies include singing, reading, and writing poetry. My goals are going to collage and getting a degree in psychology. I also want to have three kids, twin girls and a boy. My friends are very supportive of me and are proud of me no matter what I do.
